Generation Rates Effective January 1, 2012

The Public Utilities Regulatory Authority urges consumers to contact their electric supplier to assure you are paying the lowest rate for your generation services now and into 2012. If you have not switched suppliers, the PURA urges you to explore competitive supplier offers to further reduce your generation rates. 

Approved 2012 Generation Rates

On November 28, 2011, the Public Utilities Regulatory Authority (PURA) approved the 2012 generation rates for The Connecticut Light and Power Company (CL&P) and The United Illuminating Company (UI).  Standard service generation rates for both companies are declining from the rates charged in 2011.  PURA also approved Last Resort Service generation rates, the rates charged to CL&P and UI's largest business customers.

Declining Standard Service Generation Rates

The generation rate for UI residential customers will decline by about 1.8 cents/kWh going from 10.616 cents/kWh to 8.727cents/kWh.  The generation cost for a UI residential customers using 750 kWh/month will drop by about $13.50.  The generation rates for UI standard service business customers will also decline by about 1.8 cents/kWh. 

The generation rate for CL&P residential customers will decline by about 1.2 cents/kWh going from 9.482 cents/kWh to 8.279.  The generation cost for a CL&P residential customer using 750 kWh/month will drop by about $9.  The generation  rates for CL&P standard service business customer will decline by about 1.4 cents/kWh. 
 
These generation rates will become effective on January 1, 2012 and are fixed until December 31, 2012.

Your Electric Bill - Generation & Delivery Rates

Your electric bill is divided into two sections: delivery and generation of electricity. The rates noted above only reflect the generation portion of your electric bill.  These are the generation rates that will be charged by CL&P and UI effective January 1, 2012.

Delivery rates will be set by the PURA in mid December.
